Résumé : | The aim of the Newborn and Infant Physical Examination (NIPE) screening programme is to decrease mortality and morbidity by recognising, then referring, all newborn babies who have congenital abnormalities of the hips, heart, eyes and testes (Public Health England (PHE) 2016a). This is carried out by undertaking the examination of the newborn (EON), a clinical assessment that involves reviewing the baby from head to toe (Baston & Durwood 2017). This article will discuss the rationale for midwives undertaking the EON, and how the newborn hip examination is performed. |
