| Résumé : | The two studies led by Nickie van der Wulp, Ciska Hoving and Hein de Vries, under scrutiny in this issue, aim to explore the advice midwives give and the information pregnant women and their partners receive about alcohol consumption in pregnancy in the Netherlands. Being given the potentially disastrous effects of alcohol consumption in pregnancy summed up by Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, it is vital midwives’ training be improved, partners involved and general social awareness be raised, though contrary to smoking, occasional alcohol intake may often be misperceived as relatively harmless. These studies also incidentally underline the different conceptions of midwifery existing between countries. |
