There are over 200 complementary therapies (CTs), each with its own mechanism of action, indications, contraindications and precautions. CTs include manual techniques (eg massage, reflexology), vibrational energy modalities (eg acupuncture) or psychological therapies (eg hypnosis). Natural remedies (NRs) include pharmacologically-active herbal medicines, aromatherapy oils and indigenous plants used in traditional medicine, or energy-based remedies, such as homeopathy.
