AIM : To gain a deeper understanding of the experiences of, and drivers behind, disrespect and abuse (D&A) in childbirth and to recommend change in practice which honours women's human rights and autonomy. OBJECTIVE : To use original results and narratives of high-quality research to evidence incidences of, and the rationale behind, D&A and to specify areas for improvement using the research as a primary source.
