| Résumé : |
Objective: To identify, explore and synthesise available evidence concerning women's experiences when using communication support (interpreters, translation services and
communication aids) in a maternity care setting. Design: A structured review and thematic analysis of relevant literature from 2010 to present, including a critical appraisal of study quality using the Critical Appraisal Skills Programme (CASP) qualitative tool (CASP 2018). Findings: Four journal articles were identified, and all were qualitative studies. Thematic analysis of the literature identified seven main themes: -Potential harm -Inappropriate support -Access to services -Knowledge of rights -Preferences -Trust -Satisfaction Conclusions: Elements of women's experiences of communication support are under-researched and further exploration is required. Experiences reported by women using or requiring communication support during their maternity care are overwhelmingly negative. Little is understood about what will provide a positive experience for women with low or no English proficiency. |
