Résumé : | This literature review looks at the effect of words on pain perception in labouring women. This topic has been chosen for review as clinical experience shows that women and birthing people are given subtle messages that labour pain is bad, unsafe, something to be removed - and that these messages have a detrimental effect on birth experiences. While not all those in our care are women, all research in this area is focused specifically on women and it is inappropriate to extrapolate – for this reason and in the interests of brevity the term ‘woman’ is used throughout to indicate women and birthing people. |
